Observances, Commemorative Months & International Days

We have a diverse community at Canyon Creek Elementary and we want to provide you with resources that reflect our diversity!

We know everyone is busy and we want to make sure we provide you with great resources to bring awareness, education, advocacy and promotion of the US National Observance Months and the UN International Days. These provided resources should compliment what your student is learning and should offer ways your family can learn and grow together.

This collection of information (and Canyon Creek PTA articles linked below) is gathered by our DEI (Diversity, Equity & Inclusion) committee.

UN International Days

The United Nations (UN) is an international organization founded in 1945 guided by peace, dignity and equality on a healthy planet.  The UN has designated specific days, weeks, years and decades as occasions to mark particular events or topics in order to promote, through awareness and action, the objectives of the Organization.

International days are occasions to educate and offer resources to address global problems and use to celebrate and reinforce achievements of humanity.

There are many international days currently observed by the United Nations (for the full list, go here: https://bit.ly/3mjs68v), however, we will only highlight several that offer additional resources to our Canyon Creek families.

US National Observances and Commemorative Months

In the United States, National Observances and Commemorative Months celebrate the customs, values and traditions of different cultures within the United States, examining the issues and struggles of different communities as well as affirming their contributions to American society.
